Profile

Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Stephen M. Mills, 35, of Fort Worth, Texas was assigned to an East Coast based Naval Special Warfare unit. He died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed. Chief Petty Officer Mills was a SEAL for 10 years and was on his last mission before being sent home. The father of three children, 1, 13 and 18 years old, had a tremendous sense of humor, friends and family told CNN affiliate WTKR, and the 14-year Navy veteran loved being a SEAL. A sister told CNN affiliate KVUE that he never bragged about being a SEAL, despite a decade in the elite force. "He loved his teammates as brothers. He'll always be remembered as a loving person," Ashley Mills told the station.
