- Staff Sgt. Jaime C. Newman, 27, of Richmond, Va., died Sept. 17 in the Zhari district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He is survived by his son, Damarques J. Newman of Powhatan; his daughter, Jaidan I. Cox of Richmond; his mother, Helen C. Newman of Richmond; two brothers, Specialist Jaime E. Newman, U.S. Army, Ft. Bragg, N.C. and Jaime G. Newman of Richmond; one sister, Maria A. Newman of Richmond; his grand-mother, Lillian P. Newman of Louisa; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
