- Bill was killed by an IED while on patrol in Saqlawiyah, Iraq with the US Army as a scout, he was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. This unit is commonly known as "bullet sponges". He is survived by his Father, Michael Howdeshell of Springfield, Ill, his Mother and Step Father: Elaine and Jim Clausen, 2 brothers: Matt Clausen and Mark Mrdalj and his son Robert Howdeshell, as well as many Aunt, Uncles, Cousins and several nieces and nephews.
