Alexander’s awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.A third soldier and an Afghan interpreter were also wounded in Friday’s blast.Their deaths brought to 147 the number of U.S. troops killed in and around Afghanistan since Operation Enduring Freedom began in 2001, according to Pentagon figures.After a winter lull, loyalists to the ousted Taliban regime and other militants opposed to the U.S.-backed government of President Hamid Karzai have ramped up their insurgency with bombings and other attacks.
