Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL/Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist) Jon T. Tumilson, 35, of Rockford, Iowa died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed. He was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit. Petty Officer 1st Class Tumilson joined the Navy after graduating from Rockford High School in 1995 and was involved in many physical activities including wrestling, football and kick boxing. After joining the Navy he worked his way up to the U.S. Navy SEALs.
