- Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL) Jesse D. Pittman, 27, of Ukiah, Calif., was assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit. He died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed. Petty Officer 1st Class Pittman joined the military after working two seasons for Cal Fire. Friends were surprised when he told them he wanted to become a SEAL.
