Birth: Birth: Dec. 2, 1978 Latrobe Westmoreland County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Apr. 5, 2007, Iraq Cpl. Jason Shaffer of Derry, Pennsylvania graduated from Derry High School in 1998 and a 2000 graduate of the Municipal Police Officer's Training Academy at WCCC in Youngwood as a basic patrol officer. After years of unsuccessful attempts to find work as a police officer, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Before enlisting in the Army, Shaffer worked as a security guard at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity Township, at Waste Management Inc., and for a landscaping service. He also studied to be a municipal police officer. Because he loved to hunt, fish, camp and hike, Shaffer enlisted to be an Army scout. He served his first tour in 2004 and was sent back to Iraq in October 2006 and had already had been notified his unit would serve a third tour in 2009.
