Birth: Jan. 7, 1983 Death: Nov. 14, 2007 San Antonio Bexar County Texas, USA Sgt. Derek R. Banks of Newport News, was a Bethel High School graduate where he played football for the Bruins and was a small forward on Bethel's basketball team. At 6 feet 2 inches tall he had a tremendous vertical leap which was an asset to the team. But it was playing wide receiver in football that made him a memorable alumni. In school he was very outgoing and was voted "Most Popular. He went on to attend Virginia State University in Petersburg where he majored in criminal justice.
